Passengers will soon have the convenience of flying directly from Chandigarh to Singapore, as Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport is set to launch this highly anticipated route starting October 27. This new daily flight is part of the airport’s upcoming winter schedule, bringing increased connectivity to the region.
Ajay Verma, CEO of Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport, announced that IndiGo Airlines has been selected to operate the Chandigarh-Singapore flight, with final approval expected by October 20. This development marks a significant step in the airport’s expansion of international destinations.
In addition to Singapore, the airport is actively exploring new international routes, with potential direct flights to major global hubs such as London and Istanbul. These efforts reflect the airport’s commitment to strengthening its position as a key international gateway in North India.
At present, Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport operates two international flights, connecting passengers to Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Domestically, the airport serves 33 routes, linking Chandigarh with important cities like Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, and more, facilitating travel for both business and leisure passengers.
Since its inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2015, the airport has grown into a vital transportation hub. In 2022, it was renamed in honor of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, a legendary freedom fighter, to commemorate his 115th birth anniversary. This renaming serves as a reminder of his enduring legacy and the importance of national pride, further elevating the airport’s stature on the global stage.
As the airport continues to grow, the introduction of the Singapore route is expected to boost tourism, business travel, and economic ties, further integrating Chandigarh into the global network of commerce and culture.
